For this assignment I had to write at least a 200 word story about this picture.

The Treasure Hunt
By Keturah Dear

Once upon a time there lived two boys named Jeff and John.  It was a sunny day and Jeff was with his friend John.  Jeff said, Lets go for a treasure hunt.
Then John asked, What about school?
Mom and Dad will take care of that, John. Jeff told him.
Hey, Mom! Can me and Jeff start our treasure hunt today? asked Jeff.
Sure but where are you going to? asked Jeffs mom.
Jeff answered, I dont know, Mom.
What are you bringing with you? asked Jeffs mom.
I am bringing water, food, clothes, a blanket, and books, Mom.
But when are you going? she asked Jeff.
Today, Mom! yelled Jeff.  He was frustrated because she didnt hear him before.
Jeffs mom gave the boys permission to go.
Well we can go today, said Jeff.  Lets go pack John!
OK, Jeff. Im coming, John replied.
The boys started their trip.  They got in a boat to go to the island in the middle of the lake.
Hey, John!  Isnt this a nice trip asked Jeff after they had been traveling on the little fishing boat for a while.
Yes, Jeff, it is a nice trip.
Then why arent you doing anything?  Jeff asked because John looked bored.
Suddenly there was a loud sound.  Woah!  What was that, John? exclaimed Jeff.
Its a leek, Jeff! he replied.
I just noticed its not a leek, John!  We crashed into rocks! yelled Jeff.  They had not been paying attention while they were talking.
Here, John, get into swimming gear! Jeff told John.
Thats a great idea! John said as he got into swimming gear.
Lets go, John. Jeff said when they were ready.
Yeah, I think we should.  There are rocks up ahead. John said in a scared voice.
Hey, John, there is a island up ahead.  Jeff told him to encourage him to be brave.
Yeah, Jeff!  Lets swim to it! John said excitedly.
After the boys had been swimming for a while John panted, This is hard, Jeff.
Yeah, I know John. Jeff agreed.
Were almost there. John yelled when he saw how close they were.
We are here, John! exclaimed Jeff.  All of a sudden Jeff couldnt see John and yelled, John, where are you?
Right here, Jeff, John yelled from farther down the beach.
You scared me, John! said Jeff.
Did we really get to the right island, Jeff? John asked.
We really are here, John. Jeff answered.
    OK, Jeff.  I believe you.
Now lets get to work on finding our treasure, Jeff told John.
OK, Jeff, John answered and they began looking for a spot to dig.
    Right this way, John.
    OK, Jeff.
The boys searched until they found a clearing in the trees that looked interesting.  They began to dig.
Hey, Jeff! I found something! yelled John.
You did, John!  What is it? Jeff exclaimed.
I think it is treasure! John exclaimed.
Woah!  Treasure already?! Jeff said, jumping up and down.
All of a sudden the boys found some of their friends on the island too and decided to call them over.  Together the new group needed to figure out a way to get home.  They realized that the friends boat was big enough for all of them plus the treasure.  So they started off for home. But on the way home the weather was not so nice.  Soon there was another loud crash.
Woah, Jeff!  What was that? John yelled.
I cant believe we crashed into rocks again!  Jeff was scared.
One of their friends yelled, Its ok guys.  Weve got a raft.  Grab on!
All of a sudden the group saw a new boat and yelled, Help! Help us! Please help us!
The men on the boat said, “Oh no! There are boys out in the water they need our help.  OK men we need to go! Go! GO!
When they pulled up to the raft the boat captain saw it was his son Jeff and his friend John.  He asked, Son what are you doing here?
Jeff was cold and tired.  Just get us home, Dad.  We will tell you all about it when we get home.  Then we can show you the treasure.
Treasure! his dad yelled.  Then said, Im just happy youre safe.
And they got home in the morning.

The last section of English for second grade was to write a research paper about an animal.  I picked the lemur since it is my favorite!

This is a picture of me watching lemurs at the Indianapolis Zoo 4 years ago.

Here are pictures mommy took of the lemurs there.  Aren't they cute animals?

Ring-Tailed Lemurs

Lemurs look cute, fluffy, and little.  They have black and white striped tails, gray bodies, sharp claws, black noses, and white faces.  They have large orange eyes.  They weigh 8 pounds.  Their body is about 18 inches long but their tails are 22 inches long.

Lemurs are omnivores.  They eat fruit, nuts, and leaves.  They also like sap, flowers, and insects.

Lemurs live in Africa.  They live on the island called Madagascar.  They like the tropical jungles and the dry forest.

Here are some more facts about lemurs.  Lemur means ghost in Latin.  A group of lemurs is called a troop.  It is an endangered species because the trees are being cut down.  They are very active during the day.  The noises they make are whistles, grunts, and meows.

Indy The Lemur

This assignment was to write a descriptive paragraph about something using adjectives and similes.

My Favorite Toy

Indy is my favorite toy.  I got her at the Indianapolis Zoo.  She is very soft.  Her tail striped like the back of a zebra.  Normally she is quiet but when she is tossed in the air she makes a rattling noise.  She is very special to me because lemurs are my favorite animals and Papa gave her to me.  I love to sleep with her so she smells like my bedroom.  I love Indy!

Fawn Gets Lost

By Keturah Dear

Once there was a fairy named Fawn.  She cares for animals.  Animals love her.  She lives in Pixie Hollow with the fairies.

One day the fairies are playing hide and seek.  Fawn wants to hide in the Autumn Woods.  She follows a ladybug and gets lost.  She gets lost in a cave.  She misses her animals friends who could help her.

TinkerBell has a baby bird with her.  She has found all of the fairies but Fawn.  While she is looking in Autumn Woods, the baby bird flies into the cave to get out of rain.  The baby bird flies right into Fawn.  Fawn is so glad to see her and TinkerBell.  They fly back home.

Book Review For English

Today I had to write a book review for English.  It was hard to choose a book I wanted to use.  I love my chapter books but this had to be kinda short.  First, I read the book. Second, I thought of facts to go with it.  Third, I told Mom important facts to write on the board.  Next we picked what order to write them in.  I was only supposed to write the really important facts of the book and not write too much so I won't spoil the book for anyone.  So I had to cross out the extra information.  After that I wrote a draft.  Then we revised it and edited it.  Finally I typed into the computer for you to be able to read.  I hope you enjoy!

Book:  Aunt  Eater Loves a Mystery
Author:  Doug Cushman

This book is about:
Aunt Eater loves to solve mysteries.  She had to find Sam the cat.  There were a ton of alley cats.  Sam was the only cat that didn’t like fish.  That was how Aunt Eater found Sam.
I like this book because it is fun to solve a mystery.

What I Learned In History

Today in History I learned about Benjamin Franklin.  He was an apprentice in a type shop.  I got to typeset a paper and then took a picture of it in the mirror.  It was backwards but the mirror turned it forwards like a printing press would.

This was a picture I colored.  It is a blacksmith's shop.

This was me writing my first blog post.

My baby brother Jaeden likes to play in the rice while I do school.

This is my brother Micah on his first day of school.  He is in Kindergarten.

This is us on a school day.

I am headed out to get my soccer pictures taken and then our first night of AWANA for the year. Have a good night!!

Welcome To My Blog

Hi!  My name is Keturah and I am in second grade.

I am homeschooled.  This year to help practice my writing I am doing a blog.

This is me and it says what I want to be when I grow up.  I want to be a missionary because it is helping people learn about God.

I love to read.  I like the Magic Tree House series.  I also like fairy books.  My favorite books to read are the Bible and my new devotions book.

I like to go to AWANA.  It starts tomorrow.  I can't wait!!!

I would LOVE it if you commented on my blog for me to read!
I hope you enjoy what I write.
